Volunteer Spotlight: Dwight Sparks

If you have ever visited the Orangevale Food Bank you have more than likely seen the smiling face of Dwight Sparks. He has volunteered at the food bank from almost its very beginning in a variety of positions. Having heard the call from God to “get off the couch and give back,” Dwight started by sorting food and weeding the grounds and garden. Later his handyman skills became helpful when building shelves and completing other projects to help the food bank work more efficiently and is now the Project Coordinator.

When first meeting a new volunteer at the food bank and giving them the nickel tour of the facilities, Dwight encourages the new volunteers by using his famous motto of ”You can do nothing wrong here at the food bank!” The spirit of this message is to enjoy your experience volunteering at the food bank knowing you are helping others in our local communities.

Dwight has a very positive outlook on life and shares his passion with others by listening to those who just need someone to hear their life stories or concerns with day-to- day life. Making lives better is very satisfying work for Dwight and keeps him coming back to the food bank week after week.
