OVFB Updates – April 2014

This past month Orangevale Food Bank has continued to serve the local community, providing food for over 900 people. Our community is very active and helping us thrive. Recently a boyscout built wooden planter boxes for us, which now dot the parking lot supporting a growing vegetable garden; and volunteers continue to contribute time, energy and other resources to help provide food for those that can use a helping hand.

The food bank is growing! In March Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Save Mart were added to our list of regular weekly food pickups. Along with this growth, more people are getting support and small miracles are happening. A few weeks ago, the food bank ran out of pasta at the end of the week. But on Monday  of the following week, unprompted, someone called and donated a palette of pasta, the timing was very appreciated.

In the next month one of our biggest needs will be more drivers to collect food during the week. Currently we have five or six and we are hoping to have eight or ten drivers on our team. There is another food drive coming up April 12-13 and another one to follow on May 17-18. If you or someone you know is interested in joining our food drive, volunteering with us, or in volunteering as a driver for us during the week, please contact us here.
