Summer is an exciting time for children and healthy eating may not necessarily be at the top of their list of things to do. The San Juan Unified School District is working to change that by offering all children 18 years of age and under a free lunch Monday through Thursday this summer as part of the District’s Food Services Summer Fun Café.
There are no qualifications to receive the free lunch. Students do not have to be enrolled in the San Juan Unified School District, there are no income requirements and there is no paperwork to complete.
Starting June 12 through August 2, with the exception of July 4, children can stop by San Juan Central (3700 Garfield Ave, Carmichael CA 95608) Monday through Thursday anytime between 11:00am and 12:30pm to receive their free, healthy and nutritious lunch. Parents can also eat the same lunch with their child by purchasing it for $3.00.
“It is so important for children to continue to have healthy habits during the summer,” Director of Food Services Monique Stovall said. “Students who make nutritious choices during the summer are much more likely to come back to school in the fall healthy and ready to learn. These nutritious lunches are completely free for all children 18 years of age and under. No questions asked. We just want everyone to eat healthy this summer. That is our goal.”
