Today we broke ground on the new food bank community garden with many volunteers serving from Disciples Church. Along with several of our food bank regular volunteers, we we’re able to use some of the proceeds from April’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser to kick off this important project. This garden will happen in several phases with the ultimate goal of creating community and opportunities to serve as well as providing nutritious fresh vegetables for families in Orangevale. We also plan to teach people how to grow food in a garden at home. This is going to be a community effort and more volunteers will be greatly appreciated to tend to the garden as we get closer to growing and harvesting seasons. We expect to have our first harvest this summer! If you have not already connected with us on Facebook, do so today to get the latest updates and photos of the community garden.
