Folsom-based Twin Lakes Food Bank is partnering with Orangevale Food Bank this year to serve the children of our community for a Back 2 School event on Monday, August 5th. Last year, the event helped provide nearly 800 Orangevale and Folsom children with backpacks, school supplies, and a new pair of shoes. Free haircuts will also be provided this year to give the kids a fresh look for the new school year. This year, Fair Oaks students and families may also be served at the Orangevale location. It is expected that over 850 children will be served through this effort.
Students and their families can visit one of the two food bank locations on August 5th from 8:30 – 11:30 am to pick up the school supplies. This annual event requires many volunteer hours and donations to serve this need. Volunteers may sign up to help at either location for the event by contacting OV Food Bank.
If you’re interested in getting involved, here are a few additional ways to help out.
- Donate a backpack and/or school supplies
- Donate a new package of socks
- Donate gently worn school clothes or coats
- Do a backpack drive at your workplace
- Make a financial donation so each student will receive a new backpack and a pair of shoes.
Checks can be made payable to Twin Lakes Food Bank, indicating “School”
School supplies and other donations can be dropped off at either Twin Lakes Food Bank or Orangevale Food Bank locations. Visit www.orangevalefoodbank.org/drop for other local community drop-off locations. Donations should be made before the end of July to provide time to organize and prepare for the Aug 5 event.
